MAGRICOLLAGES
Or the rediscovery of surreal symbolism.
The artists‘ concept of interweaving intuitive painterly imagination and digital deconstruction developed in various directions. The first paintings in the „Magricollages“ series were created in 2020. A neologism by Ziegler, which itself corresponds to the way of thinking of the avant-garde surrealist methodology of the 20th century. This series is a new interpretation of surreal, visual art with symbolic, sometimes ironic echoes.
The collaged fragments appear enigmatic and irrational and, like their plasticity in the play of light and shadow, evoke associations with the visual language of the surrealists. During the creative process, figures emerged which, viewed from a meta-level, could point to the original portrait but now tell a completely different story.
